The Buffalo Bills will receive their first opportunity to avenge their AFC Championship loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last season in Week 5 of the 2021 NFL season.
Buffalo will play the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in October on the NFL's premier weekly telecast: "Sunday Night Football."
The Bills last played on "Sunday Night Football" during the 2020 season on Dec. 13, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers, 26-15. Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs finished the game with 130 yards receiving and a touchdown in the triumphant victory.
Last month, the NFL’s Vice President of Broadcasting Planning, Mike North, told Sal Capaccio on the “SalSports… and Stuff” podcast the Bills will be featured on plenty of prime-time games this season. This game in Kansas City will be the first of four prime-time games this season for the Bills.
Interestingly enough, the Bills will only host one prime-time home game in Orchard Park this season. However, Highmark Stadium should be rocking all season long, regardless of when the games are played. The Bills intend to fill their stadium to 100% capacity with vaccinated fans this fall.
The Chiefs defeated Buffalo, 38-24, in the AFC Championship Game, with Patrick Mahomes completing 29-of-38 passes for 325 yards and three touchdowns.
The Bills’ offense couldn’t keep up with Kansas City, but injuries might be partially to blame. Stefon Diggs recently revealed he was playing through a torn oblique, while Cole Beasley played in all three postseason games with a broken fibula.
Josh Allen went 28-of-48 for 287 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in the loss to the Chiefs.
With a full slate of health, the Bills possesses the offensive firepower to keep up with the Chiefs in 2021. They haven’t lost any significant pieces this offseason, and added veteran wideout Emmanuel Sanders during free agency.
Get ready for a shootout.
