Buffalo Bills fire Head Coach Sean McDermott

McDermott and the Bills part ways following the loss to Denver in the Divisional Round

Buffalo, NY (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills have made a major change in leadership. After nine seasons, breaking the playoff drought, five consecutive AFC East titles, and a 98-50 record in the regular season, Sean McDermott is no longer the coach of the Buffalo Bills.

This shocking news came two days after a divisional round loss to the Broncos where the offense tallied five total turnovers and the Bills were still in a position to win the game in overtime.

The news was first reported by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and the Insiders, and later confirmed by the Buffalo Bills in a statement. They will begin a search for a new head coach led by General Manager Brandon Beane.

McDermott oversaw one of the most successful stints of Buffalo Bills football. His 98 regular season wins are second in team history behind Marv Levy and he has the second most playoff victories behind Levy as well.

Coach McDermott completely flipped the perception of the Buffalo Bills Organization from a lowly team that was in on of the longest playoff droughts in the NFL modern era, to a championship contender year in and year out.

With an 8-8 mark in the postseason, including two AFC championship losses to the Kansas City Chiefs. He won five consecutive AFC East titles from 2020 to 2024, finishing second behind the New England Patriots this season.

Also in the statement from Terry Pegula, Beane got promoted to the President of Football Operations as well as retained his spot as General Manager of the Bills. It seems to be his show to run now.

As the coaching search begins, you'll be able to follow along for the latest updates on the radio home of the Buffalo Bills, WGR Sports Radio 550.
