Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills continued to add size to their pass catchers on Saturday when they selected Florida wide receiver Justin Shorter in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Shorter is certainly not what he is, especially compared to the rest of the team’s wideouts.

The 6-foot-4, 229-pound Monmouth Junction, New Jersey native instantly becomes the biggest player in the wide receiver room (Dezmon Patmon, signed to the practice squad late last season, is 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds).

Listen to WGR now!

Shorter joins 6-foot-3, 246-pound tight end Dalton Kincaid as the team’s newest pass catchers. Kincaid was the Bills’ first-round choice, and will mainly play as a big slot receiver, as opposed to a traditional tight end. Shorter can also play in the slot as a bigger target, but mostly projects as an outside target, at least to start his career.

As a fifth-round pick at 150th overall, Shorter will have a legitimate shot to make the roster. However, there are certainly no guarantees, considering the competition in front of him, including free agent signees Trent Sherfield and Deonte Harty, who can both play inside and outside.

Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis are the starting outside receivers, with the rest competing for reps behind them.

Patmon, KeeSean Johnson, and Isaiah Coulter currently round out the group, which now has nine players.
