Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Following Sunday's complete win from start-to-finish over the Seattle Seahawks, the Buffalo Bills will look to continue their winning ways this coming weekend when they host to the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
Earlier this season, the Bills dominated the Dolphins in their first matchup of the year in South Florida, 31-10. Following that Week 2 performance, both teams have gone in very different directions in the AFC East standings.
The Bills have continued to win and maintain a comfortable lead atop the AFC East at 6-2. With a win Sunday, Buffalo would improve to 7-2 on the season for the first time since the 2020 campaign.
As for the Dolphins, they have only won one other game since Week 2, sitting at 2-5 in the divisional standings. A huge reason for Miami's downfall was the injury to starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who left that Thursday night matchup with the Bills due to another concussion.
Even with Tagovailoa returning to the lineup this past week, the Dolphins failed to find a way to come out with a win in a last-second loss to the Arizona Cardinals at Hard Rock Stadium.
In recent memory, the Bills have been able to contain the Dolphins' speedy offense with weapons like Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and De'Von Achane. However, those players and others have proven in the past to be game breakers for Miami.
"They're an explosive offense. They've got probably the best team speed in the NFL, certainly on the offensive side," said Bills head coach Sean McDermott during his weekly appearance on the "Extra Point Show" on WGR. "In this case, Tua is a phenomenal player, so you could see the difference that was made in the game last week where he was back with them. It's something that we've got to have a really good practice today, and we've got to get ourselves ready to go for Sunday to play our best football."
For the past three weeks, the Bills offense has found a good rhythm, partially thanks to impressive consistency from wide receiver Khalil Shakir. Shakir has caught 36 passes on 38 targets, and leads the NFL in reception percentage of 94%.
"Years ago, I was fortunate to be around Chad Lewis, who was a tight end for us in Philadelphia in my time with the Eagles. Chad was just Donovan McNabb's best friend, really, in terms of on the field. He was his security blanket. He was his outlet when he was blitzed, and just had tremendous value to our football team. In a similar fashion, Khalil, although a different position, he patrols kind of the same area that Chad did years ago," McDermott said with Sal Capaccio. "Of course, we have Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox as well, doing similar jobs, but at a different position. So that level of consistency, that level of trust, that level of dependability that Khalil brings in the rapport with Josh is really important for our offense."
Kickoff on Sunday is slated for 1 p.m. EST, and you can hear all of the play-by-play action on the official voice of the Bills - WGR Sports Radio 550 - with Chris Brown, Eric Wood and Sal on the call.
