Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - After a bounce back win over the New York Jets this past Monday night, the Buffalo Bills sit at 4-2 overall in the standings, and will look to build upon their victory this coming Sunday against the Tennessee Titans back at Highmark Stadium.
While Buffalo's victory in Week 6 snapped a two-game losing skid, it certainly wasn't the prettiest of wins.
The Bills and Jets combined to commit 22 accepted penalties in this game, which ended up tying for most accepted penalties in any one game this season. Buffalo's offensive line received a fair amount of those penalties, in part due to the intense rivalry that has developed between the two teams up front.
"It is a physical game, and you need to be a physical team, an aggressive football team. The way we position it is the ones that are pre-snap, those are discipline, those are focus penalties. The ones that are post-whistle, those are the ones that we declare as non-negotiable. Absolutely non-negotiable," said Bills head coach Sean McDermott on Friday during his weekly appearance on the "Extra Point Show" on WGR. "You're going to get an aggressive penalty via a hold once in a while, don't love them, but we preach technique all the time. The ones that happen after the ball's snapped and before the whistle, if those are aggressive penalties, those are going to happen from time-to-time. But those other ones, those are non-negotiable."
Not even 24 hours after Buffalo's divisional win over the Jets, Bills general manager Brandon Beane went out and acquired some additional help for Josh Allen and the passing game. The Bills swung a trade with the Cleveland Browns that saw wide receiver Amari Cooper land in Buffalo as part of a package that also saw picks being exchanged.
Cooper arrived in Buffalo on Wednesday, and was able to step right in to take part in the team's walk-through practice. While it's likely that the five-time Pro Bowler makes his Bills debut this Sunday, McDermott wouldn't confirm his status for this week's matchup with the Titans.
"Happy to have him," McDermott said with Sal Capaccio. "I think Joe [Brady] has done a good job, and so has Amari and the rest of the staff, teammates included, of welcoming him and getting him integrated here. In fairness to Amari, I would say, he's only been here on a short week that is three days now, this will be his third practice. We did a walk-through on Wednesday due to the Monday night game there, so we'll see where it goes. At the end of the day, we're happy to have him, and we look forward to good things going forward."
The Bills and Tennessee Titans will kick things off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. Hear all of the play-by-play action on the official voice of the Bills - WGR Sports Radio 550.
