Pittsford, N.Y. (WGR 550) - It's now on to Week 2 of Buffalo Bills training camp at St. John Fisher University, as the team practiced with pads for the first time at camp on Monday.

Ahead of Monday's practice, new Bills wide receiver Trent Sherfield, who signed as a free agent this offseason, joined the "Jeremy White Show" on WGR and discussed talks his expectations going into the 2023 season.

"At the beginning of my career, I've been making my way through the back door with special teams. I think that you know last year I had the opportunity to showcase what I can, do as far as receiving goes," said Sherfield with Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase on Monday.

LISTEN LIVE TO WGR:

Sherfield mentions the most important part of his game is being "QB friendly", and ensuring he is in the right spot at the right time for his quarterback.

The 27-year-old wideout joins the Bills after spending last season with the Miami Dolphins and the 2021 campaign with the San Francisco 49ers. Both of those years were also spent with Mike McDaniel, who was offensive coordinator of the 49ers before becoming the head coach in Miami last year.

Sherfield certainly understands the importance of being a yards after the catch player, and how important of a factor it is that can change the game entirely.

Heading into a new season with a new team, Sherfield feels you have to be a smart receiver in order to play in the Bills' offensive system.

"You cannot have a low IQ playing in this system," he said. "We move so many guys around in different spots, and those type of things."
