Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - Despite an ugly performance Sunday night against the New York Giants under the bright lights of prime-time, the Buffalo Bills escape with a victory.

Sunday's game came right down to the final play, where cornerback Taron Johnson broke up a pass on an untimed down intended for Giants tight end Darren Waller.

The Buffalo offense, once again, got off to a slow start with no points on the scoreboard until the first play of the fourth quarter.

However, the defense did hold their ground by not allowing the Giants offense to get in the end zone. Buffalo stopped the Giants every time they got into the red zone, including another stop to end the half at the Bills' one-yard line.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott was proud of the way his defense was able to make a pair of big stops at the end of the first half, as well as the end of the game to seal the win.

"Nine points," McDermott simply said following his team's 14-9 win at Highmark Stadium. "How often can you do that in an NFL game? Two drives, they had to go down and win the game, and our defense stood up. Thought the guys did a phenomenal job."

McDermott liked that all of his defensive players were rolling going into the final minutes of Sunday's win.

"I thought we had a chance to end it there with a completion, unfortunately didn't go that way... so we had to stop them on, what amounted to, a short field," McDermott said. "I thought all the defensive guys were rolling. I didn't see one thing that wasn't executed."

The Bills will next head back on the road to take on their AFC East rival New England Patriots next Sunday from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
