McDermott on Ja'Marcus Ingram's departure: 'Unfortunate the way that went down'

Bills head coach Sean McDermott joined the "Extra Point Show" on Friday ahead of his team's matchup with the Bengals on Sunday

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - It has been a whirlwind 48 hours for the Buffalo Bills ahead of their Sunday afternoon matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals at Highmark Stadium.

After claiming veteran cornerback Darius Slay from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday, the Bills needed to make room on the 53-man roster and elected to waive cornerback Ja'Marcus Ingram.

Little did Buffalo know that early Thursday, Slay had informed the team he was not reporting to the Bills, as he elected to instead contemplate his playing future for the remainder of the season.

Then later Thursday afternoon, Ingram ended up getting claimed by the Houston Texans off waivers, now leaving the Bills one cornerback short on the active roster.

While Bills head coach Sean McDermott says he's focused on the game ahead with Cincinnati, he admits what transpired with both Slay and Ingram over the past couple of days is a tough pill to swallow.

""Obviously it's unfortunate the way that thing went down. I'm a big Ja'Marcus Ingram fan, and forever will be here. So I'm pulling for him," McDermott said on Friday during his weekly appearance on the "Extra Point Show".

The Bills continue to deal with a plethora of injuries on both sides of the ball, and were dealt some good news and bad news ahead of Sunday's contest in Orchard Park.

Starting left tackle Dion Dawkins has cleared concussion protocol, making him available to play against the Bengals. In addition, starting right tackle Spencer Brown was set to practice on a limited basis Friday, giving the team some hope he can play this week.

However, the news is not so positive for the likes of defensive end Joey Bosa and linebacker Terrel Bernard, who McDermott declared out for Sunday's game with Cincinnati. In addition, wide receiver Joshua Palmer is considered doubtful to play this week as he deals with nagging knee and ankle injuries.

Meanwhile, tight end Dalton Kincaid has missed some time with a hamstring injury suffered a few weeks back against the Miami Dolphins. This week, he popped up on the injury report with a knee injury.

"One thing kind of affected a little bit of the other," McDermott noted with Sal Capaccio on WGR. "He's had the knee, he's kind of worked himself to go back to the beginning of the year training camp included, got away from the knee. Hamstring shows up, and so over the course of trying to get the hamstring right, the knee is popped up again here."

It is unclear, at this point, whether Kincaid will be available for the Bills come Sunday's 1 p.m. kickoff at Highmark Stadium.
