Alex Tuch named Sabres' nominee for King Clancy Trophy

Senior NHL executives vote on the winner of the annual honor

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – For a second year in-a-row, Alex Tuch has been named the Buffalo Sabres' nominee for the King Clancy Trophy.

The annual honor is awarded to the player that "best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made noteworthy humanitarian contributions to his community." The winner will be chosen by a committee of senior NHL executives led by commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly.

Tuch formed the AT9 Foundation, is a non-profit which helps children that face challenges in their lives. The foundation also helps in the research of childhood cancer.

"I love giving back to the community, I love doing the events," said Tuch on Wednesday in a team statement. "Everything that we were able to do this year from the toy drive to the tickets to the games and stuff, it was really special. I enjoyed every second of it. I love doing it and so does my family, so it was a lot of fun this year."

Tuch was also the recipient this season of the Rick Martin Memorial Award, which is presented annually to the player who fans believe best embodies what it means to be a Buffalo Sabre based on on-ice excellence, resiliency, and dedication to the community.

The first-place winner of the King Clancy Trophy will receive a $25,000 donation to a charity of their choice. Two runners-up will each receive $5,000 donations.

Rob Ray is the only player that has won the trophy while being with the Sabres back in 1999.
