Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – Brandon Biro has three points in two preseason games, as the Buffalo Sabres beat the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, 4-1.

Biro scored a really nice goal in the third period, taking a beautiful pass from Casey Mittelstadt and wiring a shot over Bruins goalie Michael DiPietro. He also got an assist on Riley Stillman’s second period goal.

Biro had some unfortunate luck playing for the Rochester Americans last season. He was their leading scorer before getting an injury that put him out for the year.

The 25-year-old still finished the season as Rochester's second leading scorer, netting 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points in 40 games. Lukas Rousek had just five more points in 21 more games.

During his 2021-22 campaign, Biro did get his only NHL game with the Sabres. That year, he had 41 points in 48 games with the Amerks.

Biro has also excelled this training camp with the Sabres, and head coach Don Granato has noticed.

"Brandon’s a guy that I’ve watched quite a bit," said Granato on Tuesday following his team's win. "We had talked a lot last year about him being called up, and unfortunately, injuries took him out of it. But he’s a guy that I’ve become very familiar with, and there’s nothing he’s doing here that surprises me. It’s just that’s Brandon."

Biro wasn’t drafted, but he was signed as a college free agent by the Sabres in March of 2020 after his senior season at Penn State University.

Sabres rookie goalie Devon Levi saw his first preseason action and stopped all 19 Bruins shots in 40 minutes of action.

"It felt good. I just had some fun, the boys played great. It was fun to go out and compete with them again," said Levi following the win.

"Every game is an opportunity to learn and grow, so this is just another one. It’s definitely nice to see some pucks before going into the season, so I took it as an opportunity to make saves and have fun, maybe learn a thing or two and get ready for the season."

Rochester’s goalie Devin Cooley played the third period and let in one goal on 19 shots. He was especially busy, playing the last three-and-a-half minutes at 6-on-5 with the Bruins goaltender pulled.

Jeff Skinner and Filip Cederqvist scored the other two Buffalo goals.

2023 first-round pick Zach Benson made a gorgeous pass with his back to Skinner to set up the early power play goal.

Benson did turn the puck over a few times in the third period, but overall, I thought it was another very good game for him.

The Sabres are right back at it Wednesday in St. Thomas, Ontario when they face the Toronto Maple Leafs for the Kraft Hockeyville game. While nothing is official, I would expect Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to get the start in goal after Levi played Tuesday and Eric Comrie started Sunday.

Faceoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET and can be heard on WGR.
