Dahlin, Luukkonen to play in 4 Nations Face-Off

The tournament will be played in Boston and Montreal from Feb. 12-20

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - A pair of Buffalo Sabres players were selected to play in the 4 Nations Face-Off on Wednesday afternoon for their respective countries.

Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin was selected to represent Team Sweden at the in-season tournament this February, while Team Finland has selected goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to be part of their three-goalie group.

The 24-year-old Dahlin has played for Sweden in the 2018 Olympic Games, and twice in the World Junior Championship.

This season, while struggling with back spasms, Dahlin has six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 25 games.

Former Sabres goalie, now with the Ottawa Senators, Linus Ullmark has also made the Swedish roster.

As for Luukkonen, he will join Nashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros and Vancouver Canucks netminder Kevin Lankinen.

Luukkonen was superb last season, and took over as the Sabres' No. 1 goalie. This year, he’s 8-6-2 with a 2.69 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. In the two seasons as the Sabres' top goalie, the 25-year-old is 35-28-6 with a 2.60 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.

Meanwhile, Sabres defenseman Henri Jokiharju was seen as a possible asset on the blue line for Finland, but didn’t make the team.

However, former Sabres and current Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen did make the Finnish roster.

Teams USA and Canada will be naming their rosters on Wednesday night. The tournament will take place in Montreal and Boston from Feb. 12-20.
