Greenway out week-to-week; Luukkonen ready to return

Alex Tuch missed Monday's practice, while Tage Thompson said it was his biggest test to try and return to the lineup

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff said Monday that winger Jordan Greenway had a MRI on Monday and will be out week-to-week with a middle-body injury.

Fellow winger Alex Tuch also missed practice with, what Ruff calls, a "bit of an ailment."

"It’s an injury slash, give him the day off and see how he feels," said Ruff on Monday, who doesn’t know any further than that with Tuch, because things will be determined on how he feels on Tuesday.

Ruff says Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is great and good to go, which is why Devon Levi was sent to the Rochester Americans after practice.

Monday was a different practice for Tage Thompson than the morning skate was Saturday in Philadelphia.

"When you’re just cruising through a morning skate, there’s a little more flow and predictability in the skate. Something like today where it’s a full on practice where you’re working on tracking, D-zone, battles you get a more game-like situation, which is something I wanted to test to see where I was at with that, because I had been feeling really good up until this point where not really noticing it a whole lot," said Thompson following practice. "But then you put yourself in more of a game-like situation, and how are you going to respond? I definitely felt it a little more today, but since coming off the ice and getting some work done, it’s calmed down. So I like the response, and it’s a good day, because you want to test it and see where you’re at. That’s a positive for today."

With Greenway out for a while and Thompson still questionable, the Sabres have called up forward Isak Rosen for the trip out West. He takes Levi’s spot on the roster.

In 14 games this season, Rosen is Rochester’s leading scorer with four goals and nine assists for 13 points. In 147 AHL games, Rosen has 38 goals and 62 assists for 100 points. The 21-year-old did not pick up a point in seven NHL games last season.

Ruff kept his promise about taking ice-time away from players that have been taking bad penalties.

Their biggest offender, by far, is their captain Rasmus Dahlin, but the man who opened Saturday’s game with a cross-checking penalty, Connor Clifton, will sit for Henri Jokiharju, who returns to the lineup after missing six games.
