Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – Each NHL team every season gets a nomination for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy. This award is given to the player that best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice, and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.

The NHL says each team nominates a player that it feels most deserving, and the Buffalo Sabres have nominated Jeff Skinner.
The league uses these criteria to select a winner every year:
- Clear and measurable positive impact on the community
- Investment of time and resources
- Commitment to a particular cause or community
- Commitment to the League’s community initiatives
- Creativity of programming
- Use of influence; engagement of others
Skinner just recently participated in the "Bald for Bucks" campaign through Roswell Park, and has always been generous with his time in Western New York.
Rob Ray is the only Sabres player to have ever won the trophy back in 1999.
