Rochester, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Rochester Americans will be getting some additional offensive depth heading into the Calder Cup Playoffs.
The Buffalo Sabres announced on Wednesday that 2022 first-round pick Noah Ostlund has been assisgned to the Amerks with his season in Sweden now officially over.
The 20-year-old played a total of 38 games in the Swedish Hockey League this season with the Växjö Lakers HC, scoring 12 goals and adding 11 assists for 23 points. He added a goal and an assist in seven playoff games, but his team was eliminated from the playoffs last week.
Earlier this year, Ostlund also played at the IIHF World Junior Championship for Sweden, where he won a silver medal while serving as an alternate captain for his country. In 10 games played for the Swedes in the tournament, Ostlund scored three goals and added seven assists, while being named a top-three player on the team.
Ostlund got a chance last year to spend a few weeks with the Amerks, but he never played a game in that time. However, he should be available for some game action this time around with Rochester gearing up to make a run in the playoffs.
He will join fellow Swede and 2023 second-round pick Anton Wahlberg in Rochester, who also won a silver medal this past January at the World Juniors. Wahlberg has already played in seven games with the Amerks, scoring a goal and three assists.
The night Ostlund was drafted 16th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, he said he wanted to play two more seasons in Sweden, which he has done. It is expected for Ostlund to make the full-time jump to North America next year.
The pick used to draft Ostlund was acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights as part of the Jack Eichel trade in November 2021.
