Sabres claim goalie James Reimer off waivers from Ducks

Anaheim claimed Reimer off waivers from Buffalo last month

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Sabres got their goaltending depth back in order on Tuesday, as they claimed James Reimer back off waivers from the Anaheim Ducks.

Reimer was a free agent signing of the Sabres over the summer, and spent training camp with the team and was on the roster for the first two games in Czechia.

However, when Reimer was waived to go to Rochester after the trip overseas last month, the Ducks swooped in to claim him. That was because starter John Gibson just had surgery, so the Ducks needed another goalie.

With Gibson now back in net for Anaheim, the Ducks waived Reimer on Tuesday.

In two games with Anaheim, Reimer went 0-2-0 with a 4.50 goals-against average and an .864 save percentage.

Reimer returns to Buffalo just in time, as starting goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

While head coach Lindy Ruff says it's possible Luukkonen will still be available for Thursday night's game with the St. Louis Blues, Reimer could serve as the backup to Devon Levi, if needed.

Faceoff on Thursday is slated for 7:30 p.m. EST, and is a radio-only broadcast on the home of the Sabres - WGR Sports Radio 550.
