(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Howard Brown Health, which has served Chicago's LGBTQ community for almost 50 years, is re-hiring laid-off employees, after the National Labor Relations Board stepped in.
Howard Brown is trying to get past the controversy that came to a head last year when it dismissed 61 employees to try to plug a $12 million hole in the budget.
Those employees -- therapists and administrative workers and their union -- took their case to the NLRB, which investigated and found problems with Howard Brown's bargaining.
Now, Howard Brown says it has offered to re-hire all 61 employees and give them back pay.
The union says only 25 have accepted the offer.
Howard Brown says it's working with the union to give back pay to all five dozen employees.
The LGBTQ-oriented health center is opening a new clinic on Halsted in September.
