(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Some LGBTQ bars in Chicago have been getting both criticism and praise for dropping Bud Light and other Anheuser Busch products after the brewing company tried to distance itself from a transgender TikTok-er.

Mark Robertson, co-owner of 2 Bears Tavern Group, said customers and members of the community have been positive about their announcement last week they would no longer sell the beers at its four bars.

But there have been plenty of negative comments online as well.

He tells WBBM he doesn't take them too seriously and won't speculate what Anheuser Busch InBev must do to get back into his bars.

“The products that we sell in our establishments and that our customers want to buy need to carry the same values that we have, which is support of all parts of the LGBTQ community and ensuring that the safety and human rights of everybody are maintained.”

Robertson said he recognizes the beer company's sponsorship of pride events and past marketing to the community. But he says this runs much deeper than that and was a necessary values alignment.
