The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced last week that restrictions that had previously prevented many gay and bisexual men from donating blood had been officially lifted. The federal organization stated in a news release that it will suggest a set of "individual risk-based questions" that will be the same for every blood donor, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender, or sex. Those who had anal sex within the previous three months with a new sexual partner or with more than one partner would be asked to postpone their blood donation.
The majority of gay and bisexual men who are monogamous with a man will no longer be required to abstain from sex in order to donate blood under the new regulations.
