Steve Pearce said on Monday that he had to start hitting his way out of Pawtucket, and Thursday was a step in the right direction.

The rehabbing first baseman, who’s trying to get his rhythm and timing back on the right track almost a month after suffering back spasms, went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a walk in Syracuse on Thursday. Pearce also took reps in the field, as he continues to alternate between first base and designated hitter.

It hasn’t been the smoothest of comeback trails for Pearce, who’s had his fair share of rough evenings at Triple-A, but the 2018 World Series MVP could rejoin the major league roster in the next week or two.

Feltman throws another scoreless inning

Continuing to improve with Double-A Portland, Durbin Feltman tossed another scoreless inning for the Sea Dogs on Thursday, walking a batter but striking one out and exiting without surrendering a hit.

After a couple of disastrous outings in early May, Feltman has really buckled down in recent weeks, allowing just one earned run in his last 11 innings, though his walk numbers remain high. His ERA peaked at 11.00 on May 5, but his dropped to 4.30 in the weeks since.
