Today’s question: Which undrafted rookie will make the roster?
Hannable: Wide receiver is a position without many defined roles, especially on the backend of the depth chart, which certainly gives a UDFA wide out a better chance at sticking around with a good summer.
There are two possibilities in Jeff Thomas and Will Hastings and we're going with Hastings. Sure, he probably had a better chance if Jarrett Stidham were definitely going to be the starter after they played together at Auburn, but we're still putting our money on Hastings.
New England needs to get younger at the position and didn't draft a receiver, so why not keep a UDFA around? Hastings also brings some special teams value as not only could he play a regular role, he's also an onside kick specialist.
Hastings as a good of a chance as any to be this year's Jakobi Meyers.
Hart: This is the offseason of Auburn in New England. First, was the idea that Jarrett Stidham might be the heir to Tom Brady. Now, Cam Newton has brought his star power to Foxborough. And, the Patriots have a pair of former Auburn Tigers who might just be considered intriguing undrafted rookie free agents with a chance to make a roster.
Wide receiver Will Hastings might be a “sexy” pick, especially given New England’s history of slot stars as well as his resume as an onside kick specialist. But I’m going to go with another Auburn import – Nick Coe.
