Rating how teams did in the immediacy of an NFL Draft is a little like reviewing books, movies or art – it's incredibly subjective and generally far from universal.
After all, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Clichés aside, at least one NFL Draft expert wasn't all that high on what Bill Belichick, Nick Caserio and the Patriots accomplished over the weekend.
In fact Dane Brugler -- one of the better budding draft gurus in an industry essentially created by Mel Kiper Jr. three four decades ago – ranked New England's 10-pick draft haul among the worst in the NFL.
On The Athletic (subscription), Brugler slotted the Patriots as having the NFL's 30th draft class, ahead of only the Rams and Falcons.
Brugler lists second-round Michigan edge defender Josh Uche as his favorite Patriots' pick, writing: "Can he play on early downs? Can he drop in space? Uche comes with question marks, but his edge speed isn't one of them. And he is going to a defensive system that will put him in a position that will highlight his strengths as a player."
NFL Draft grades are understandably self-serving based on how we feel about each prospect. And that's okay.Ranking my favorite draft classes from 1-to-32: https://t.co/ZxWVctjBKO
— Dane Brugler (@dpbrugler) April 27, 2020He also tabs sixth-round Wake Forest offensive lineman Justin Herron as a third-day pick who could surprise, writing: "A basketball-first athlete most of his life, Herron is still developing his timing and technique. However, his athletic twitch and foot quickness are building blocks for the Patriots' coaching staff. He started 51 games at left tackle for Wake Forest, but has the skill set to play tackle or guard in the NFL."
For comparisons and for whatever it's worth at this point, Brugler lists the Ravens, Cowboys, Browns, Vikings and Jaguars, in order, as having the top five draft classes.
