Despite coming off arguably the best game of his career in Super Bowl LIII, veteran punter Ryan Allen lost his job in New England this summer to strong-legged rookie fifth-round pick Jake Bailey.

After being released by the Patriots midway through the preseason, it was mildly surprising that Allen didn’t catch on with another punter-needy team across the league to close out the summer.

But it’s hard to imagine that Allen’s work in the Super Bowl will be his last in the NFL.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Allen was one of two punters worked out by the Texans this week.

Stronger in terms of situational or directional punting than pure leg power, Allen is a veteran of six seasons in New England. The left-footer finished his time in Foxborough with a 45.3 avg., and a 40.2 net.

Allen punted five times in Super Bowl LIII against the Rams with 43-yard average and a 40.6-yard net, including three punts downed inside the 20, two of which were downed inside the 7 in the second half of the tight game.

Allen originally joined the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Louisiana Tech in 2013.
