The ugly contract stand-off between the Jets and All-Pro safety Jamal Adams is over and the end result is good news for the Patriots, at least for now.
New York reportedly traded the talented physical box defender on Saturday to the Seattle Seahawks, pending physicals for the players involved in the deal.
According to ESPN, the Jets sent Adams to Seattle along with a fourth-round pick in 2021 in exchange for safety Bradley McDougald, a first-round pick in 2021, a first-round pick in 2022 and a third-round pick in 2021.
It’s a massive haul for the disgruntled defender who in recent days has openly and vocally criticized both ownership in New York as well as the leadership of Jets head coach Adam Gase. Adams also will be in line for a huge contract at some point, although that’s apparently not a part of the trade or the immediate future in Seattle.
From a New England perspective, while the trade gives Jets GM Joe Douglas capital to work with in trying to rebuild his team, it also removes New York’s most talented player from annual matchups with the Patriots. Although this year, Bill Belichick’s team will actually still see Adams in its Week 2 matchup in Seattle.
