The Blue Jays announced Monday the organization will retire Roy Halladay’s No. 32 on Opening Day on March 29.
The players will also wear No. 32 patches on their uniform sleeves this season to honor the late pitcher, who died in a plane crash last year.
Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar’s No. 12 is the only other number retired by the franchise.
"Through Roy's values, pride, work ethic, and perseverance, he epitomized what it means to be a Blue Jay," team president Mark Shapiro said in a statement. "And while his legacy is clear, it goes far beyond the number on his back or his on-field accomplishments, serving as a shining example of how to live a meaningful life and positively impact others."
The eight-time All-Starspent 12 seasons with the Blue Jays and won one of his two Cy Young Awards with the team.
Halladay died at 40 years old on Nov. 8 when the plane he was flying solo crashed off the Gulf of Mexico. An autopsy report revealed he had evidence of amphetamine, morphine and an insomnia drug in his system.
