AROUND THE WEB:

-- Doc Rivers spoke with Sports Illustrated recently about coaching the historic 2008 Celtics team and he compared that team's star to Tom Brady.

Rivers said he saw a lot of the team-building qualities in Kevin Garnett that we see from Brady.

"Kevin Garnett is the greatest superstar team-builder that I've seen in the history of the game," Rivers said. "He always considered the team before any action that he took on or off the floor, and for that to also be your superstar player is unusual. Kevin Garnett, like Tom Brady, is a culture-builder. When you have a guy like that, you're going to win. Kevin is one of the greatest of all-time, but he'd be the last one to tell you."

"He was in the right mental place to win in Boston, as were Paul (Pierce) and Ray (Allen)," Rivers continued. "They'd already done so many other things in their careers, but the one thing that stood out was something they couldn't buy, something they couldn't do alone. In order to do this, they had to come together as a group. Kevin really understood that, and he was willing to sacrifice anything for that, including his numbers and his fame."

Rivers is set to host the annual ABCD Hoops Dreams event on September 3 at the Auerbach Center with Brad Stevens.

-- The NBA is investigating after Lakers star DeMarcus Cousins allegedly threatened to shoot his child's mother in the head.

Cristy West told Mobile, Ala. police on Friday that Cousins threatened her during a phone conversation and she gave police a recording of the call, which was obtained by TMZ. Police spokeswoman Charlette Solis confirmed TMZ's recording was the same recording the West gave investigators.

In the audio recording, a man the woman identified as Cousins asks if he can have his son "here." The woman says no and the man tells the woman he would "make sure" to "put a bullet" in her head.

A police report lists the alleged offense as a domestic violence misdemeanor for harassing communications.
