-- Dwyane Wade played his final game in Miami on Tuesday night and the Heat fans showed him they are on his side after some recent comments from Paul Pierce.

Pierce said on ESPN last week he believes he had a better career than Wade and in response, the Heat fans started a “Paul Pierce sucks” chant that filled American Airlines Arena during the game against the 76ers.

-- Magic Johnson abruptly resigned as the Lakers' president of basketball operations Tuesday night, saying he wants to step back and live a simpler life.

The Lakers legend made the announcement to the media before the team took on the Trail Blazers.

"I want to go back to having fun," Johnson said. "I want to go back to being who I was before taking on this job. We're halfway there with LeBron coming (last summer). I think this summer, with that other star coming in, whoever is going to bring him in, I think this team is really going to be in position to contend for a championship with the growth of the young players."

Johnson had reportedly recently been given permission to fire coach Luke Walton and he wasn’t sure if he could do that.

"(On Wednesday) I would have to affect somebody's livelihood and their life," Johnson said. "And I thought about it and I said, 'That's not fun for me. That's not who I am.'"

The Lakers released a statement on Johnson and Lakers co-owner Jeanie Buss tweeted support following the announcement. Johnson said he had not told Buss of his decision before announcing it.

Earvin, I loved working side by side with you. You’ve brought us a long way. We will continue the journey. We love you ---- https://t.co/ofmQl6BtBz

"Somebody is going to have to tell my boss, because I know she's going to be sick," Johnson said of Buss, with whom he is close. "But I knew I couldn't face her face-to-face and tell her."

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I felt good. It was great to be out there. Obviously I wish we'd won. But it's been a long time since I've been able to do that and it was fun." -- Dustin Pedroia, after playing in his first game with the Red Sox in 315 days on Tuesday afternoon
