Tuesday: miles from Monday, halfway to Humpday. How to get the day started right? Just a little dab of Morning Mashup will do ya!

BROADCAST HIGHLIGHT

Cavaliers vs. Kings, 10/29/2003: Pop Up Edition - NBA TV, 8 p.m.(The professional debut of Lebron James done “Pop Up Video” style, a must-watch for all NBA fans)

IT IS WHAT IT IS; A FRESH START

Bill Belichick addressed the media for the first time since two major incidents; the Coronavirus quarantine, and the release of “Tiger King” on Netflix. Also, Tom Brady left town for Tampa. The HC of the NEP, now entering his 21st season with the team, faces more uncertainty maybe than ever. He addressed questions on a wide range of topics, including the virtual draft, the QB competition and much more (read all about it at weei.com). But most telling, and most predictable, was his “On To Cincinnati”-esque response when it came to if he wanted Brady to stick around.

Q: Did you have a desire bring Tom Brady back?Belichick: "Water under the bridge. We're really focused on this season and trying to look at our opportunities and make decisions and plan and prepare to be as competitive as we can this year."

CLIFF, PARTY OF ONE! YOUR HUMBLE PIE IS READY

OK, so maybe it’s not Max Kellerman offering an overdue mea culpa on his infamous rants about Brady and his cliff (he’s admitted he’s the GOAT yet still is always nipping at his heels). But, when a bearded blowhard with a popular platform offers any sort of praise like admitting what the Patriots did with their double dynasty may never be repeated, you listen, and you share.

PASS GO, COLLECT $64 MILLION

Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey, a threat to score from legitimately all over the football field, became the highest-paid running back Monday in football (in terms of AAS: average annual salary, FYI), signing a 4 yr/$64 million deal. So now we know the new ceiling for top-flight backs. Nice paper for a back who was told entering the draft he “Lacks desired size of an every-down back” and “Doesn’t have NFL-caliber power to break tackles and create yardage for himself.”

Christian McCaffrey is the only player with 2,500 rushing yards AND 2,500 receiving yards in his first 3 seasons....ever. https://t.co/CVIyoUxgm2

POUR ONE FOR THE BEER SNAKE

Seems our favorite little football upstart in its second iteration, the XFL, is #doneski once and for all. Shame, too, seeing as there were signs of hope, from surging ticket sales in St. Louis, to social media traction and of course the famous Beer Snake fans assembled each week at DC Defenders home games. No cooler moment in football this year than when the people’s commissioner, Oliver Luck, came out to contribute a cup to the snake. This is is how you lead the fanimals. Gone but not forgotten.

WHEN A LOSS IS A WIN

A professor at the University of California San Francisco said recently that the best thing that could have happened to the city of San Francisco was losing the Super Bowl to the Chiefs? Seems counterintuitive, until you think that a championship parade could have lead to possible further asymptomatic spread of the COVID-19 virus. The more you know...

BECAUSE YOU NEED THIS

OK, maybe we overdo it here with adorable animal videos here, though they are a relief in the face of our current state of stress. And sure, the “broadcasters calling events out of context” thing ran its course already, too. But what if an impressionist did vintage play-by-play of a hilarious animal video gone viral? [Madden voice> BOOM.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"I haven't been able to touch a basketball since our last game with Indiana ... I thought about it, but the weather up here isn't great. Five out of six days it's raining and it's still pretty cold up here." --Celtics star Jayson Tatum to ESPN’s Rachel Nichols on how New England life has affected his game during the Coronavirus shutdown.
