Rick Pitino has found his way back to college basketball.
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports was the first to report Pitino, who has been head coach of Panathinaikos B.C. in the EuroLeague, will take over as Iona’s head coach. The job opened up with Tim Cluess’ recent retirement.
“I missed college basketball when I was in Greece,” Pitino said, per Rothstein. “I'm back home where it all started. It's the greatest feeling in the world."
Prior to his move to Greece, Pitino was the coach of Lousiville men’s basketball from 2001-2017. His reign ended when he was fired amid the FBI’s investigation into college basketball for bribery and fraud.
In 2018, Pitino said he was finished coaching.
