The Celtics will be without big man Robert Williams for the foreseeable future. The big man has been dealing with a left hip issue, which has now been diagnosed as a bone edema.

As a result, the team will have to limit Williams’ basketball activities. He will be reassessed in approximately three weeks.

“It’s always tough when somebody goes down, but since I been here, we always had the ‘next man up’ mentality,” Jayson Tatum said at Monday’s practice.

The timetable on Marcus Smart is less clear. He wasn’t even at the Auerbach Center while the team practiced on Monday.

After Smart suffered an abdomen contusion on December 1, he began battling an illness. Then came the left eye infection he’s currently dealing with — which has now spread to both eyes.

Brad Stevens has been informed Smart’s condition is one that can last for 7-10 days. Monday marked the seventh day Smart has been battling the ailment.

“He’s struggling a little bit,” Stevens said.

Vincent Poirier jammed one of his fingers on Monday. He went to receive x-rays after practice. The team has not been informed of any diagnosis yet.

Last among all the health problems the Celtics are dealing with: Tatum has a sinus infection. Though that didn’t impact his participation at Monday’s practice.

All of this helped lead to the Celtics recalling Romeo Langford from Maine on Monday.

“We needed a body to play,” Stevens said. “We didn’t have enough to go live there with all our wings. … I thought it’d be good for Romeo.”
