Red Sox sign local player as another undrafted free agent

The Red Sox have added another two prospects to their list of signed undrafted free agents, with one of them getting a chance to join his hometown team.

The team announced it has signed right-handed pitchers Nate Tellier of UMass-Dartmouth) and Joey Stock of St. John's University.

Tellier, who hails from Attleboro, entered the 2020 season as the fourth-ranked Division 3 prospect according to PerfectGame.org. While he stood out at the plate during his shortened senior season, hitting .463 in 10 games, he is being viewed as a pitcher heading into his professional career. This year Tellier appeared in four games (5 innings), allowing just one run. That comes after a 2019 season in which he struck out 36 in 27 innings, finishing with an ERA of 2.00.

Under this year's rules, no undrafted free agent is allowed to merit a signing bonus of more than $20,000, with the MLB Draft having gone just five rounds.
