Did Bill Belichick take subtle shot at Lane Johnson?

PHILADELPHIA — Bill Belichick doesn’t forget things, and he may have had Lane Johnson’s comments following Super Bowl LII on his mind when the Patriots took on the Eagles Sunday in Philadelphia.

At the end of his opening remarks at his postgame presser, Belichick may have taken a subtle shot at the Eagles offensive tackle.

“It looked like everyone had fun out there today and we played with a lot of good energy and it was good to come down here and get a win,” he said following the 17-10 win.

The word “fun” may have been in response to Johnson’s comments in the past.

"I just think that 'The Patriot Way' is a fear-based organization," Johnson said on Pardon My Take after the Eagles beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. "Obviously, do they win? Hell yes, they win. They've won for a long time. Do I think people enjoy and can say, 'I had a lot of fun playing there'? No, I don't. That's just the God's honest truth.

"They're successful, but when they go to interviews, they act like (expletive) robots. Hey, stop being a (expletive) head. We can be cordial for a little bit. You only get to do this job one time, so let's have fun while we're doing it. Not to be reckless, but I'd much rather have fun and win a Super Bowl than be miserable and win five Super Bowls. But hey, it is what it is."

It’s hard to know for sure if Belichick was trolling, but we wouldn’t put it past him in this case at all.

Johnson left Sunday's game in the first half with a head injury.
