Boomer Esiason on GHS: Patriots aren't paying Tom Brady 'top-end starter money'

Over the next several days and weeks, everyone will be sharing their predictions when it comes to what happens with Tom Brady.

The 42-year-old is a free agent for the first time in his career, so he could do one of three things: re-sign with the Patriots, sign with another team, or even retire.

Appearing on The Greg Hill Show Monday morning, WFAN and CBS Sports' Boomer Esisaon said even though it's hard to imagine Brady with another team, he does not see him back with the Patriots.

"I don't know, is this going to be a mass exodus from Josh McDaniels to Tom Brady, to a number of personnel people who would like to go with Josh and get away from Bill Belichick? Nobody really knows, but all I know is this: (Bill) Belichick will find a way. He will. He will find a way somehow, someway. They will be competitive because of their defense," he said. "I don't know who their quarterback would be if in fact Tom Brady decides to go somewhere else. But I know one thing, there's no way that the New England Patriots are going to pay Tom Brady top-end starter money for what he has done. They want to pay him for what they think he can do, so they can support him and they can be good offensively once again and be that team that averages 30 points a game. Man, it's going to be really hard.

"The same thing is going on in New Orleans. Drew Brees only played 11 games this year, he missed five, did not play great in the playoff game against Minnesota. They lost again. There's going to be hard decisions around the league that need to be made. It's going to be interesting to see with who stays and who goes.

"My sense if you had to ask me, I think Brady is gone unless there's no one out there that pays in the big money, he comes back to the realization he wants to give it one more go with the New England Patriots and he takes less money with his salary. That is what Bill Belichick was talking to on Sunday."

The Patriots' season ended Saturday night in their 20-13 loss to the Titans on Wild Card Weekend.
