Former Miami DL doesn't want Bill Belichick in Don Shula discussion because of his 'moral character'

At 67 years old and winning six Super Bowls with the Patriots, what more could Bill Belichick want?

How about besting Don Shula's 347 career victories for the most in NFL history?

The Patriots coach currently has 304, so he really needs around 3-4 more seasons to potentially best Shula.

With the Patriots playing Miami this week, this is a topic is South Florida and one of Shula's former players -- defensive lineman Manny Fernandez -- doesn't like Belichick being in the same category as Shula.

"I just think it’s a shame that a guy who constantly gets caught cheating is even there because — I don’t know — his moral character leaves me kind of questioning," Fernandez told the Palm Beach Post.

Another player -- guard Larry Little -- spoke on Shula's integrity.

“One time, I think we were playing the Raiders, we practiced at their facility," he said. "Someone (on the Raiders) left their game plan in the locker room and somebody gave it to Coach. (Shula’s response was), ‘No. We don’t do it that way.’ He wouldn’t look at it. It would happen out there, on the field. That’s how Don was. Integrity. Yes, integrity.”

Of course, this comes up now following the Patriots admitting to illegally taping the Bengals sideline during a game a few weeks back for a "Do Your Job" special on an advance scout. The team maintains the football side had nothing to do with it and the NFL apparently has found nothing to suggest that in its investigation.

Shula turns 90 Jan. 4.
