Bill Belichick and Co. now have two roster spots open just a few days before training camp.
Late last week, offensive lineman Andrew Jelks said he was stepping away from the game, and Monday morning the team informed safety David Jones he will be released, this according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.
Jones, an undrafted free agent out of Richmond last year, spent the entire 2017 season on the practice squad and showed promise. The downside for Jones is the safety spot is one of the best positions on the entire roster and there simply wasn't going to be room on the team for him. This gives him a chance to latch on with another team before training camp starts and a better chance of making a 53-man roster.
The Patriots now have two open roster spots and are likely to fill them by Thursday morning and the first official training camp practice.
