It's become quite clear the Patriots are rallying behind Jarrett Stidham and putting him in a position to be the starter in 2020.
The team passed on selecting a quarterback high in the draft and also has not signed any of the big-name free agents, including Cam Newton.
A nugget in The Athletic gave some insight into why the Patriots have passed on Newton, in addition to believing in Stidham and not having much salary cap space.
"New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels wasn't necessarily high on Newton when he was talking to the Panthers about their head coaching vacancy," Joseph Person wrote.
Newton was released by the Panthers and still hasn't found a home.
The Patriots have Stidham, Brian Hoyer and then undrafted rookies J'Mar Smith and Brian Lewerke.
