The Patriots added a safety after losing Duron Harmon earlier this week.
According to Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson, the Patriots have agreed to a two-year deal with safety Adrian Phillips. In 2018, he was a first team All-Pro and was also a Pro Bowler as a special teamer. The 27-year-old missed a lot of last season because of a broken arm suffered in Week 2.
In 2018, he had 94 tackles, nine passes defensed and one interception. It's worth noting he doesn't play like Harmon, as Phillips lines up close to the box on most occasions. He has spent all six of his NFL seasons with the Chargers.
Phillips will join Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung and Terrence Brooks in the safeties room. Depth was needed after losing Harmon and Chung's injury history the last few seasons.
With Harmon's release saving just under $4 million, it's wondering how much the contract is worth.
