Filling in for David Andrews last season at center, Ted Karras did a good enough job to create a decent market for himself this offseason.
According to a source, Karras agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal with Miami on Wednesday. He chose that over a higher two-year offer from the Patriots (although year 2 was less than $4 million), but Karras is betting on himself to have a good 2020 season and then hit the market again next offseason hoping for an even better deal.
This could also be viewed as good news in terms of Andrews' health. If there was a real chance Andrews would be forced to miss another season due to blood clots in his lungs, maybe Karras would have stayed with the Patriots because he knew he'd likely be the starter.
With Karras gone, the Patriots may need to look to add a depth piece or two on the interior, and may also be forced to look for a starting left guard if the team trades away Joe Thuney after placing the franchise tag on him this week. His cap figure of just under $15 million may be too much at this point.
