The Bruins announced Tuesday morning that right wing Craig Smith has been placed in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Vegas Golden Knights.
The news comes one day after head coach Bruce Cassidy returned after two weeks in protocol. It also comes one day after the Calgary Flames -- the team the Bruins just faced on Saturday -- were forced to postpone three games following an outbreak that has seen nine players and a member of the training staff enter protocol.
It is unclear if Smith's situation is linked to the Flames at all, or if the Bruins could be in danger of any more positive tests over the next couple days.
The Bruins had three players -- Linus Ullmark, Connor Clifton and John Moore -- miss Monday's practice due to testing issues, but none were forced into COVID protocol and all three returned for Tuesday's morning skate.
With Smith out, Jake DeBrusk took his spot as right wing on the second line next to Taylor Hall and Charlie Coyle at morning skate, according to reporters who were there.
Smith, who has also missed five games due to injury this season, has two goals and five assists in 19 games.
The Bruins are fully vaccinated as a team, although it's unclear how many players have gotten booster shots at this point.
