Don Sweeney: Bruins not talking with Alex Pietrangelo; Taylor Hall appears in the mix

Predictably, Don Sweeney's Zoom call with the media Saturday included a few questions about what he might do next when it came to free agency.

But one of the more notable items came when Sweeney insinuated what the Bruins won't be doing.

The Bruins' general manager was asked about his team's interest in two of the top free agents on the market -- Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and left winger Taylor Hall.

Sweeney never directly responded to the inquiry regarding Hall, not denying reports that the Bruins have interest in the former first overall pick. But he did note that there hasn't been any talk with Pietrangelo's reprentatives.

"We're comfortable having conversations with the remaining free agents that would help our club. In full disclosure in this case, I have had not had discussions with Pietrangelo's camp," Sweeney said. "We feel our right side might not be the absolute best fit. Very respectful to the player. He's an elite player in the National Hockey League. That's not a discussion we've had. As regards to other players, we're certainly gauging the interest on both sides of it and seeing what potentially fits in."

Sweeney went on to explain that filling the hole left by Torey Krug -- who signed a seven-year, $45.5 million deal with the Blues -- can be potentially accomplished in a variety of ways.

Pietrangelo remains the top defenseman available in free agency, coming off another solid 2019-20 season with St. Louis.
