Last weekend, Kevin MacDonald and Matt Dennison, two seniors on the West Warwick/Exeter-West Greenwich hockey team in Rhode Island, were hit head on by a drunk driver on their way back from visiting a junior hockey program in Connecticut.
Both suffered serious injuries. MacDonald has undergone several surgeries and is currently in stable condition. Dennison was put in a medically induced coma and remains in critical condition.
Rhode Island State Police charged Alex Krajewski, 30, of North Kingstown with multiple DUI-related offenses.
There are several ways to help MacDonald, Dennison and their families if you're looking to do so. The Greg Hill Foundation is collecting donations and matching all donations up to $10,000. You can donate here.
In addition, there have also been GoFundMe pages set up for both boys. Here is the one for MacDonald, and here is the one for Dennison.
Jared MacDonald, the father of Kevin, joined The Greg Hill Show Friday morning to provide an update.
"They're doing as best as they can," Jared said. "Kevin is in good shape physically. He was put back together. He'll have a bit of rehab to do. Matt is struggling hard, but he's been making small steps forward daily. While we haven't been able to talk to him yet, he's coming around, and we're praying hard for him."
He said any and all support is appreciated.
"Honestly, it's the support, the prayers, the kind words," he said. "We've been getting so much of that. The hockey community is, by and large, one of the best. It's almost like family to us. Anyone who's in the hockey world understands that. It just seems like a different place. It's been so great, people reaching out from all over the country that have heard this, that know people of people, and wanting to support as best they can. Just the fact that you guys have set up a fundraiser for them to help with expenses -- Matt, unfortunately, was flown by helicopter from the scene to the hospital. Those bills are definitely going to add up, and it's going to be a long road for their family. As well as ours, but in comparison, not nearly as much."
