Celtics hire 'well-regarded' Mike Budenholzer assistant to join coaching staff, per report

The Celtics may be struggling to fill out their roster. But at least they're adding to their coaching staff.

The team hired Milwaukee Buck assistant Ben Sullivan Friday to join Ime Udoka's staff, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. He says Sullivan is "another in a long line of well-regarded Mike Budenholzer assistants."

The Celtics hired Udoka as their next head coach in late June, and have added a string of assistants since then. They've hired ex-NBA players Damon Stoudamire and Aaron Miles, along with former pro Garrett Jackson.

Notably, Udoka and Mills both coached under Gregg Popovich.

Though Sullivan, 37, doesn't have professional playing experience, he's become one of the more well-respected assistants in the league. He worked extensively with Giannis Antetokounmpo to improve his offensive game.

The Bucks bested the Suns in the NBA Finals, and Giannis took home MVP honors. It was one of the most dominant Finals performances in NBA history.

A longtime coach himself, Brad Stevens probably has more first-hand knowledge about assistants than other executives. He's made a string of nice hires on the bench. Importantly, Udoka came with endorsements from Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

But unfortunately, coaches don't win basketball games. You need players, and in that category, the Celtics still fall short.
