We will have an answer to the Gordon Hayward situation at some point Thursday. But until then the rumors continue to fly.
The latest was surfaced by Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated on NBC Sports Boston's NBA Draft show Wednesday night.
"Something I've been hearing across the league the last few days is while we don't know how the Gordon Hayward situation is going to shake out, something that could be possible is a Gordon Hayward-Andre Drummond swap," Mannix said. "That's something that a lot of league execs I've been talking to have discussed."
Hayward has until 3 p.m. Thursday to decide whether or not he will be opting into the final year of his contract with the Celtics, which would pay him $34.2 million for the 2020-21 season.
If a deal involving Drummond is to be hatched, Hayward would have to agree to a sign-and-trade.
The 27-year-old Cleveland center has one more year on his current deal, which schedules to pay him $28.75 million in 2020-21. Drummond, who stands just under 7-feet, would offer the Celtics some much-needed interior help, having averaged 14.5 points and 13.8 rebounds per game over the course of his career.
