Kristaps Porzingis is set to miss his fourth consecutive game on Monday night as the Boston Celtics face the Indiana Pacers in the quarterfinals of the In-Season Tournament due to the calf strain he suffered in Boston’s Black Friday loss to the Orlando Magic on November 24.
However, a return to the lineup could be on the horizon for the big man.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, there’s “optimism” that Porzingis will return to the lineup this week. Wojnarowski adds there have been no setbacks with the injury.
With a win over the Pacers on Monday night, Boston would advance to the semifinals of the In-Season Tournament, punching their ticket to Las Vegas to take on the winner of the New York Knicks vs. Milwaukee Bucks quarterfinals matchup.
If the Celtics lose to the Pacers, they will host the loser of the Knicks-Bucks game at TD Garden on Friday night.
Porzingis’ return could come at a key point for the Celtics as they look to win the first-ever NBA In-Season Tournament and send a message to the rest of the league.
