When Jayson Tatum dropped 53 points against the Timberwolves, he remarked his son Deuce wasn't in attendance. "Just means I'll have to do it again someday and he'll be there next time," Tatum said.
Well, Tatum didn't wait very long before putting on another classic performance, this time in front of Deuce. The Celtics' star put up 44 points against the Warriors in Boston's 119-114 victory Saturday, going head-to-head against Steph Curry. After the game, Tatum said how special it was for Deuce to be there.
"I always love when he's at the game," Tatum told reporters on Zoom. "He's kind of a visual representation of what I do it for. Having him watching, knowing that he's looking up to me, it's all the motivation in the world right there."
Deuce also accompanied his dad for his post-game interview with ESPN's Rachel Nichols.
Even though Deuce Tatum is only three years old, he's been a mainstay at Celtics games — when fans are allowed to be in attendance. He was a virtual fan in the bubble last summer and went viral during All-Star Weekend, when video surfaced of Kyrie Irving chasing him before warm-ups.
Over the last year, we've all been separated from our loved ones, and that's why it's so heartwarming to see Deuce and Jayson together. With fans not being allowed in the TD Garden until late March, Deuce hasn't been able to watch many of his father's games. They are making up for lost time — like so many of us.
A playoff run is a pretty good time for a reunion.
