It seems like Grant Williams is interested in a big pay raise.
The Celtics' role player, who will be a restricted free agent this offseason, could be seeking a deal that pays him $20 million annually, according to NBA Insider Marc Stein.
Stein says Williams is using Spurs forward Keldon Johnson as a comp. He inked a four-year, $74 million deal last summer.
While Williams is a useful rotational player — his tenacity was a huge asset to the Celtics in the playoffs — an annual salary of $20 million is a hefty price tag. This season, Williams is averaging 8.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
Such a deal would make Williams the team's fourth-highest paid player using 2023-24 salaries, ahead of Marcus Smart, Derrick White and Robert Williams.
At 24 years old, Williams may ultimately decide to take a discounted rate to stay with the Celtics, a bonafide championship contender. But if he wants to cash in, he may be forced to look elsewhere.
