There's nothing better than a good old-fashioned brain fart from a professional athlete, and that's what Celtics guard Marcus Smart gave us Monday night.
In the third quarter of Boston's game against the New Orleans Pelicans, Payton Pritchard won an uncontested jump-ball back to Smart, who then proceeded to chuck a side-arm shot up from behind half-court in order to try to beat the 0.3 seconds remaining on the shot clock, launching the ball over the backboard.
The problem? The 0.3 seconds was a Pelicans shot clock. Smart and the Celtics could have calmly gathered the ball and set up their offense.
Perhaps even better than Smart's folly itself was the reaction from NBC Sports Boston color commentator Brian Scalabrine, who after a brief delay exclaimed, "What are you doing???" and then laughed for about 10 seconds straight.
