The Patriots unofficially opened training camp on Tuesday with both veterans reporting and head coach Bill Belichick addressing the media for the first time to start the 2023 season.

His most telling comments were about cornerback Jack Jones, who remains with the team:

“"Jack will be out there,” Belichick said when asked about the second-year defensive back’s arrest last month. “It's a legal situation that I can't comment on that's ongoing."

Jones was arrested at Logan Airport on June 16th and was arraigned the following Tuesday and charged with two counts on each of the below offenses (per Massachusetts State Police):

- Possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of the airport
- Possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card
- Unlawful possession of a firearm
- Carrying a loaded firearm
- Possession of a large-capacity feeding device

When pressed on the matter further, Belichick declined to comment due to the ongoing legal matter.

According to The Athletic's Jeff Howe, the Patriots have yet to get any word on a potential suspension regarding his legal situation.

Jones who plead not guilty on the above charges, is due back in court on August 18th.
