Julian Edelman hasn't played in a game since Oct. 25 as he had a procedure on his knee just a few days later.
The wide receiver has been eligible to return for a few weeks and Bill Belichick gave a positive update Monday on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria when asked if he expects him to return at all this year.
“I know he’s working extremely hard and I would certainly never count Julian out of anything," he said. "He’s got a tremendous will and work ethic and very competitive. Football is very important to him, so it would take a lot for me to count him out, put it that way.”
Belichick added: “I think Julian has made a lot of progress in the last couple of weeks. I talked to him the other day and [he’s] certainly feeling better and able to do a little more each day. We’ll take it day-by-day and see how it goes.”
In six games this season, Edelman has 21 receptions for 315 yards.
Lacking depth at the wide receiver position, Edelman coming back would certainly be a big boost for the position.
