If things continue to go the way many expect them to this offseason, it would seem Cam Newton will be under center for the Patriots to start the 2021 season.
Obviously, things did not go according to plan for him and the team last year, but speaking at a Patriots season ticket holder draft preview, former wide receiver Deion Branch expects things to be different in Year 2.
“Given the offseason (he’ll have), I think we’ll see a better Cam,” Branch said, via ESPN's Mike Reiss. “Everybody is always talking about the 2015 [MVP] Cam Newton, but I’d like to go back to just the 2018 (version) — 67.9% passing, 24 TDs, 13 interceptions. If they can get that type of performance, I think this will be a great year.”
Not only will Newton have a full offseason in the system, he will have much better weapons than he did a year ago with the Patriots going out and adding a number of pass-catchers this offseason.
The Patriots likely will be drafting a QB in the draft, but at least at the moment it seems Newton will be QB1 on the depth chart.
