Tom Brady not mentioning the Patriots or their fans in his official retirement announcement on Tuesday certainly came as a surprise and disappointment to a good chunk of Patriot Nation.
But what was the reaction in the building down at One Patriot Place? Robert Kraft released a glowing statement praising Brady, saying in part, “I have the greatest respect for Tom personally and always will.”
Was there a different reaction behind closed doors, though? One former Patriot, Ted Johnson, made some waves Tuesday night when he said on NBC Sports Boston that he had heard that Kraft was “very upset, and he was screaming and he was yelling, and there was a temper tantrum he threw after reading this [Instagram] post.”
On Wednesday morning’s Greg Hill Show, however, WEEI’s Greg Hill refuted that report, saying that according to his sources, the reaction wasn’t nearly that explosive.
“I like Ted Johnson. Ted Johnson used to be a frequent guest on the old show. But suggesting that Robert Kraft had a temper tantrum yesterday would fly in the face of any information that I perhaps had shared with me yesterday,” Hill said.
“So you don’t believe him?,” co-host Jermaine Wiggins asked.
“I do not. No I don’t. I don’t believe him,” Hill said. “I have to be careful what I say, but I was told that those in the organization at the highest levels thought that it was odd -- I’ll paraphrase -- thought it was odd that Tom Brady did not mention the Patriots or Robert Kraft or Bill Belichick or the fans, but that the relationship remains good between Tom Brady and the Krafts. So I heard nothing of the sort about a temper tantrum.”
